I spent thirty-five years iron working the modern way, welding and cutting steel, before I began iron working as a hobby. In the late 1980s, I purchased my first coal fire forge and anvil and began hammering out iron the way my great-grandfather did. Over the last fifteen years I have collected antique tools and equipment for a blacksmith shop. In 2006, I retired from my full-time job and opened Stan’s Blacksmith Shop, located in Mount Joy. I specialize in antique and reproduction tools and hand-forged items, many of which are custom orders. I am a member of Heritage Artisans Guild and Pennsylvania Artisan Blacksmiths’ Association, and I give iron working demonstrations for the community at events all around Lancaster County.
